The #ZanyZebras have arrived in Southampton!

From 16th July to 25th September the City of Southampton and Marwell Zoo are being invaded by a herd of awesome #ZanyZebra sculptures.

This year Hargroves Cycles are the proud sponsor of ‘Zippy the Zebra’ – you can find him near the Art Gallery and Old Library close to the Civic Centre. There are 150 Zany Zebras to discover, all of which will lead you on a journey through many of Southampton’s impressive landmarks including Holy Rood Church, The Bargate, the city walls and new Cultural Quarter.

At the end of the event, all of the Zebra’s will be sold at a charity auction, The proceeds of which will help support Marwell’s work with the Grevy’s Zebra in Africa – an excellent and worthwhile cause. Today, there are less than 3000 Grevy’s Zebra left in the wild – fewer than black rhino.

Finding the Zebra’s is easy. Just download the trail map and get exploring the city! If you find a Zebra don’t forget to take a #ZanyZebra and post it up on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram tagging @ZanyZebras2016 and using the hashtag #ZanyZelfie – Here’s one we took earlier!

Inside Specialized HQ

Yesterday, the team headed to Chessington for a world of adventure…The guys weren’t visiting the famous theme park though, instead they were heading to the UK headquarters of Specialized to see the new range of bikes, parts and accessories for 2017.

Whilst we can’t share any details of the new range just yet, their HQ is a wash with bike history and interesting geeky bike tech. This was my first visit to Specialized so admittedly I looked like a tourist taking pictures every 5 seconds…Here’s a selection of some of coolest things I saw..

Join us for the Sky Ride in Southampton this Sunday 12th June

This Sunday 12th June the Hargroves Cycles team will be attending the Sky Ride in Southampton. If you’ve never ridden around Southampton City Centre on two wheels we highly recommend coming along and giving it a go. The Sky Ride is perfect for all ages and abilities of cyclist and the majority of the cycling route will be on closed roads. That means no cars and the route is really easy to follow so you don’t need to worry about getting lost.

There is still time to register so if you’re keen, just head on over to the Sky Ride Southampton website to sign up.

We’ve posted a copy of the route map below which takes in some of the popular spots around the city. The route is beginner friendly and only 8km in length which is about 5 miles. The course is open from 11am – 3pm so you have plenty of time to cycle around the route at your own pace.

Make sure you pop by the Hargroves Cycles stand in the ‘My Journey Village’. We’ll have plenty of bikes on display for you to look at including mountain bikes, road bikes, kids bikes and hybrids.

Zebra Spotting in Deepest Darkest Southampton

Hargroves Cycles are really very proud to announce our support for the Marwell Zoo’s Zany Zebra’s event in 2016.

Well the guys at Marwell Zoo are going to release a herd of Zebra’s decorated by local artists and schools around the streets of Southampton on the 16th of July. The city centre will be an explosion of colour and the challenge for you guys is to try and spot them all.

If you can’t wait to see them then we have a sneak peek of one of the Zebra’s below;

We would love to tell you loads of stuff about the design of our Zebra, as we are all buzzing about it, but we have been sworn to secrecy.  So keep your eye’s peeled on Saturday the 16th of July where our very own Zebra will be galloping somewhere around the Southampton streets.

What we can say is that you should keep checking the Hargroves Cycles hub as we will announce a competition on here in relation to ……..(Oops we almost told you the Zebra’s name then).  Just watch this space to find out more…

They are all being packed up safely in their crates and are being carefully herded to Southampton, if you want updates then follow the Zany Zebra’s Facebook Page.
